Each week throughout this season, Rise Up will feature a Player of the Week from each of the 4 main area codes across the state. We just wrapped up the seventh week of the season and the votes are in!! Read below about Payton Burgess, the 606 Player of the Week for this week.
Burgess came up huge for Menifee County in the 16th Region All “A” tournament, averaging 11 PPG and 13.7 RPG. Her team punched their ticket to the All “A” State Tournament after beating Raceland by 11 in the championship game. Payton finished that game with a triple-double: 10 points, 10 blocks, and 23 rebounds. She is averaging 11.4 PPG and 11.9 RPG on the season while shooting 56% from the field and 41.7% from 3. To put her impressive play into perspective, Burgess averaged 1.4 PPG and 1.6 RPG as a freshman. The sophomore has really come up big for the Lady Cats this season and has shown she is capable of grabbing 20+ rebounds in any given game. Menifee County is on a 4 game winning streak and will look to continue building momentum going forward.
