Rise Up Sports Player of the Week:
Ashtyn Barrett
Barrett is a junior at Bath County High School. She is her team’s leading scorer and rebounder as she has helped them start off the season with a 10-8 record. Recently, she had the first triple-double in school history. Barrett had 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 steals in a win over Elliott County. She is averaging 19.8 PPG and 6.4 RPG on the season.
Barrett is a dynamic and versatile scorer. She can knock down shots so quickly off of the dribble, and unless you’re able to stay right up on her when she uses her step back move, she’s going to create great looks off of the dribble. However, if you guard her too closely, she’s a strong driver who can get into the paint and score in crafty ways. She can finish through contact or she can draw the foul and finish at the free throw line.
Barrett has scored over 1,700 career points and she has grabbed over 500 career rebounds. In the 18 games her team has played this season, she has scored 30+ points on 2 different occasions and she has scored 20+ points in 10 different games, including the two 31 point performances. Her 19.8 PPG currently put her in the top 20 on the state’s scoring leaderboard. Barrett still has the remainder of this season and the entirety of next season to continue making noise, but what she’s already accomplished in her high school career is truly incredible.
Congratulations to the Rise Up Sports Blog Player of the Week for Week 7, Ashtyn Barrett!!
