Rise Up Sports Player of the Week:
JAKAYLA THOMPSON

Thompson is a senior at DuPont Manual High School in Louisville, Kentucky. She has helped lead her team to a 14-1 start with their lone loss coming in their very 1st game of the season and it came to the unanimous #1 team in the state at Sacred Heart. Manual has been viewed as one of the top teams in the state all season long, especially after winning the talent-filled Queen of the Commonwealth tournament. Last week, Thompson had a huge double-double with 19 points and 18 rebounds, along with 6 steals and 5 assists in a win over Butler, and then she had 21 points (67% FG), 8 rebounds, and 4 steals in a win over Notre Dame.
Thompson has a ton of talent alongside her at Manual, so the fact that she is their leading scorer and rebounder is extremely impressive. She’s currently averaging 15.2 PPG and 5.5 RPG. She’s shooting nearly 40% from 3 and 48.5% overall. Thompson has been a huge factor in the success Manual has had in head coach Ashley Franklin’s 1st season with the Crimsons.
Manual is currently a top 16 scoring team in the state (61.6 PPG), top 12 defensive team (allowing 39.3 PPG), top 4 in team margin (22.4 margin PPG), top 8 in field goal percentage (45.8%), top 42 in free throw percentage (65.8%), and top 5 in 3-point field goal percentage (37.2%). Thompson has played a big role in all 6 of those categories as she is a strong defender and a scoring threat at all 3 levels. She is so versatile and tough. She’s been one of the best guards in the state for a while now, but she’s been playing more in the post this season and she’s still dominating. Thompson is close to surpassing the 1500 career point mark and has already grabbed 500+ rebounds. She is committed to play at the University at Buffalo next season.
Congratulations to the Rise Up Sports Blog Player of the Week for Week 6, Jakayla Thompson!!
