There is a new innovative basketball league coming to the sports world and it is called the Unrivaled Basketball league. What is it you might ask? It’s a 3v3 league that will feature the 30 best women’s basketball players in the world which is set to officially be tipping off in January of 2025. The league in its entirety will have a collection of 6 teams with 5 players per team. Since this league is set up in a 3v3 playstyle the format is quite unique from a standard WNBA type of game. For starters, the court will be played on half of a full length basketball court, meaning the dimensions of the court will be measured out to 70×50 feet. Each game will be played in an hour long window with 4 quarters and a shot clock and 10 minute game clock. Every team will have the opportunity to play each other once over the span of 8 weeks which includes the playoffs. Only the top 4 teams based on record will make it to the playoffs to compete for the championship. Another cool aspect of this league is that there will also be a 1v1 tournament that coincides with the regular season and it gives a chance for the women in the league to compete individually against one another to determine the best women’s player in the world. There are already some big names that have signed on with the league that include Breanna Stewart, Naphessa Collier, Rhyne Howard, Arike Ogunbowale, Chelsea Gray and Kelsey Plum to name a few. Breanna Stewart and Naphessa Collier are the two masterminds and driving forces behind the league’s creation. Their mission was to create an even more intensely competitive league that showcases the cream of the crop of women’s basketball with not only a bigger spotlight, but larger checks as well. Salaries of WNBA players has always been a problem because in comparison to the men of the WNBA they make significantly less money, so this league will let those star womens basketball players make exponentially more than their normal underpaid WNBA salaries.
