Each week throughout this season, Rise Up will feature a Player of the Week from each of the 4 main area codes across the state. We just wrapped up the ninth week of the season and the votes are in!! Read below about Maggie Simons, the 859 Player of the Week for this week.

It’s safe to say Simons had a big week at the All A Classic. The very first play of the game, the freshman nailed a 3-pointer which just so happened to get her to the 1,000th point mark in her Varsity career. Her team went on to win the game 48-30 and Maggie finished with 24 points and 7 rebounds. They faced Walton-Verona in the next round and they advanced once again after a 65-38 win in which Simons had 26 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Unfortunately, they fell in the final four to the eventual champions, Holy Cross Covington, but Simons grabbed 10 rebounds and scored 5 of her team’s 30 points in that game as well. She went 6-for-8 (75%) from the 3-point line across the 3 games and was named to the All-Tournament Team. There is still a lot to come in Simons future, but what she has done so far in her career has been nothing short of incredible!
